Tre-Fin believes in a different model of supplying food – one which provides a clear path of origin and enables consumers to not only experience a higher quality fish but to also know that it was caught and processed in a responsible manner. We are determined to shift the seafood market by providing a local, healthy, fresh and abundant food source in a manner that preserves its true quality. This is in opposition to industry standards, which let efficiencies and established market patterns diminish the quality, producing a product that is best consumed after it is canned. Through transparency and complete traceability, Tre-Fin is setting a new standard for albacore tuna fishing.
Tre-Fin has emerged as a source of the freshest and highest quality albacore offered to the public from our boat F/V Opportunity and a co-op of other day boats utilizing similar fishing methods. Our Pacific Albacore tuna are caught off the coast of Oregon and Washington near the mouth of the Columbia River and is marketed as “Day Boat Tuna”. To qualify as Day Boat Tuna, the fish must be caught and brought back to port by local fishermen within a 24 hour period and be handled individually with a series of steps to maintain the highest quality possible. Using the Day Boat Tuna model, we can track and communicate exactly where, when and how the fish was caught and processed, providing the ultimate in transparency.
Tre-Fin provides albacore tuna year round through our Community Supported Fishery. We currently offer two purchasing options, an individual (one time) share and an annual (reoccurring) share
An individual share box consists of approximately 10 lbs of individually vacuum packed loins in portion size. Each portion is the approximate size 2 adults would consume per meal, with each box providing 10-12 meals. If served twice per week this would represent approximately 3 months of a healthy protein source incorporated in one’s diet.
An annual share consists of 4 share boxes. Members can pick up a share every 3 months at our base events or elect to pick them up during our on season (July-Oct) at our operation in Ilwaco. Our base events are schedule four times per year in July, October, January and April at EcoTrust’s Redd building in SE Portland.
We also have share boxes available at additional events during the year depending on the success of our harvest. Pop Up events will be emailed to our newsletter subscribers. Visit our website to subscribe to that newsletter or contact us for more details.
