47th Avenue Farm
Our inspiration for starting the 47th Ave Farm was simply to grow the best possible produce for our friends & neighbors in SE Portland. Two decades later, our commitment to delicious food & sustainably farming has earned our vegetables a trusted spot on the tables of families who want the best in their CSA basket. We’d love to have you join us!
The CSA Seasons
Our summer season starts mid-May & continues through Oct. Early spring starts with fresh herbs, fava beans, green garlic & all the elements of an ecstatic salad. Sweet corn, heirloom tomatoes & other traditional summer crops reach their peak in Aug & Sept. In the fall, hardy winter staples like kabocha squash, tuscan kale, & fingerling potatoes fill out the end-of-the-season shares.
Our winter season starts in Nov & continues through April. Over the course of this season we grow a myriad of different greens, root vegetables, & herbs. Also included are a wide variety of delicious brassica family crops like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale & brussels sprouts. And don’t forget winter squash, onions, garlic & potatoes that we grow in the summer & store for the winter.
We started in 1996 on an oversize double lot in the Woodstock neighborhood of SE Portland & we still host our Tuesday CSA pickup there. Our Thursday CSA pickup is at Luscher Farm in Lake Oswego where we grow on 12 acres in partnership with their Parks & Rec Dept. Our newest farm property is 38 acres on Grand Island, an agricultural oasis just south of Dayton, Oregon.
All of our farm properties are managed sustainably using cover crops between vegetable rotations, beneficial insects, drip irrigation & conservation tillage techniques. We farm with great people, electric tractors, & even sometimes with horses! This holistic farming system improves the tilth & fertility of the farmland. It also protects the woods, wetlands and communities that surround our farms. And it simply makes better vegetables.
