Food Works Farm
Food Works is a year-round program with multiple tiers of involvement. Twenty youth begin in the 8-week volunteer summer leadership program and receive a monthly stipend for their time. Youth can then move on to employment with the Academic Year Program (8-10 youth) and then again for the summer Market Crew team. Experienced youth can also apply to be Summer Staff who work alongside adult staff to run all aspects of the farm and program. At each level of the program, youth take on more leadership and responsibility.
By purchasing a portion of the season’s harvest, CSA members develop a partnership with our farm, the youth employed at Food Works and the Village Gardens’ community. All funds from our CSA go back into the program to help employ youth from North Portland and to operate our 2.5 acre certified organic farm on Sauvie Island. The CSA consists of primarily vegetables and herbs and includes 6-12 different produce items each week, it’s a great size for a family of four or a couple hungry adults. Our CSA begins on May 25th, 2017 and includes the Food Works newsletter that keeps you up to date on farm happenings, what’s in season, our favorite recipes, youth writings and Food Works program updates.
The cost of the share is $600 for 23 weeks, we can accept cash, credit/debit, checks and SNAP. You can also pay in two installments, the first due by June 1st and the second due by July 31st.
